The start of the first two day consecutive rest period for us!
Every 2nd and 3rd week of the month has Tuesday and Wednesday off for rest days.
Went for my Slip Decoration class at Gallery Moyu that afternoon. But before that, I went for an incredible Shiatsu Massage at the massage parlour recommended by Sensei and well approved by both V and M who had gone already. This sequence of events I do remember quite clearly. 12-1 pm Shiatsu Massage. However, I ended up getting lost because there are two shopping streets parallel to the main road and I had mistakenly thought the parlor was at one instead of the other. Arrived at about 12:15pm. Massage ended around 1:15pm. 1.15 – 2pm I could have had a good lunch but instead, found myself getting lost in the bookstore at the shopping street, checking out incredible books on ceramic techniques, Kintsugi…in the end I had so little time I decided to skip lunch and go straight for the class, all the while feeling my angry, hungry tummy blame my brain for lack of better time management.
Had such a great time learning a new technique. I always love it when I get to learn something that I’m interested in and can foresee myself practising it and getting better at it in the future. This technique that the teacher used was painting underglazes onto already bisque fired pieces, in a way that resembled watercolour paints. Combined with slip which she paints on, she decorates bowls/cups/plates so prettily with floral designs. When she demonstrated, it looked so easy, brushing on the slip to create petals of flowers. When I tried though, the slip would often not slide so easily and the petals came out larger and harsher than expected. ;p Oh well. With anything that appears easy done by experienced people, the underlying layers of difficulty are immense.
Absolutely loved spending time in the 2nd floor studio space though. While I was busy painting on the decoration, the Sensei would go downstairs to attend to the shop customers. She even gave me a quaint little bell to ring when I had questions or had finished with the task at hand.
Her range of colours was simply gorgeeouuus. Was so tempted to go straight to a glaze shop to get all the underglazes at hand.
As part of the class, a complimentary drink and snack. ^^ Perfect for my growling tummy. Adored the bowl used for Matcha. Apparently it was from a local Seto artist.
One of the many cats that belong to the corner vegetable/fruit seller. ^^ They always run off super quickly so I was surprised this one stayed long enough to let me take a shot.
Wrote in my diary that night:
“Day off – felt sooo great. Just sleeping in bed… listening to rain.
Even now, raining after a whole afternoon of rain.
Very gentle ceaseless type of rain.
Such fun and excitement learning new skill that I would actively want to try out asap. Can’t wait to go to tool shop. Made it for 1622 bus hahhhh.
Semi successful random bit of throwing late at night when I probably should have just stopped. sometimes can’t help it.”
